Message From Producing Artistic Director Danny Feldman
WELCOME TO CYRANO DE BERGERAC
We start with Cyrano de Bergerac, a play by Edmond Rostand written in 1897. Very few stories have been performed consistently for over a century, continually capturing the hearts of audiences. A great story also tends to capture the minds of other writers, and Cyrano de Bergerac has been adapted countless times with new productions on stage as well as variations of its captivating story in film.
This production continues that grand tradition. Martin Crimp’s ‘free adaptation’ impossibly manages to be both a faithful interpretation while feeling like a completely new work written just for this moment.
Cyrano de Bergerac also allows us to do one of the things we do best here at the Playhouse: bring classic stories to life in big, bold ways. It’s not very often that an epic story of this scale with a cast as large as this one graces Los Angeles stages.
As with everything we do here, it wouldn’t be possible without our Members and supporters. We appreciate you coming back to experience this iconic moment in the history of Pasadena Playhouse. You are what makes us endure and thrive.
Whether you are new to the Playhouse or come occasionally and have enjoyed your time with us, please consider becoming a Member and joining us all Season. We promise you memorable experiences all year and are excited to have you as a Member of our community.
Enjoy the show.
